Theme 1: Good, Bad and Emergent Business Models

Within this research theme, we consider good, bad and emergent business models for the cultural and creative industries. We will explore which existing business models can survive in the digital world, which cannot, and, most importantly, which new models will succeed and scale to drive growth and jobs in the creative economy. At present, research within this theme is currently being carried out across nine different projects:

  • Managing Intellectual Property Assets for Creative SMEs (Part 1)
  • Managing Intellectual Property Assets for Creative SMEs (Part 2)
  • Archives, Digitisation and Copyright
  • Copyright and Risk: Scoping the Wellcome Digital Library Project
  • New Business Models for Cultural Institutions
  • Copyright, Football and European Media Rights
  • Live to Digital – Live events, streaming and business models
  • Converging Technologies and Business Models
  • Copyright and Games
  • Digitising the Edwin Morgan Scrapbooks
  • The emergence of business models in the 3D printing industries
  • Intangible Cultural Heritage, Intellectual Property, and Cultural Branding in Celtic-Derived Cultures
  • The Effects of Tax Credits on the Games Industry
  • Live media events across mobile platforms and devices: a case study of the ‘BBC Live’ content delivery system
  • Going for Gold: A Legal and Empirical Case Study into 3D Scanning, 3D Printing and Mass Customisation of Ancient and Modern Jewellery
