Society of Authors call for Copyright Directive support

30 August 2018

The Society of Authors has urged their members to support the proposed Copyright Directive, describing it as a means for “forcing platforms such as YouTube and Facebook to take greater responsibility”. The Society also notes that provisions compelling transparency, contract adjustment mechanisms, and a dispute resolution mechanism will all benefit authors. Concluding, the letter notes that should the EU reject the proposed Directive, the UK will likely leave the EU before any new copyright laws are passed (“[losing] a once in a generation opportunity”).
