Over 100 MEP’s submit open letter in opposition of proposed press publishers’ right

7 June 2018

Over 100 MEP’s have submitted an open letter to Axel Voss (Copyright Directive rapporteur) detailing their opposition to the proposed press publishers’ right. The open letter requests the deletion of Article 11 in its entirety, stating that its introduction will “have a nocent and injurious effect on citizen’s access to quality news and information”. The letter also provides details of previous oppositions to the right (such as the opinion of over 200 European experts), as well as citing independent academic studies which highlight the lack of success of similar rights in Germany and Spain.
