European authors sign petition to remove article 12 from the Copyright Directive
11 October 2017
European authors from nine different countries have signed a petition to remove article 12 from the proposed Copyright Directive. The petition states that the introduction of a new publishers right further weakens the position of the author, and has the potential to create confusion between conflicting articles within the Directive, as well as resulting in high administrative costs to implement effectively. This petition echoes similar concerns raised in a statement by EWC, FEP and CEATL in September 2017.
