YouTube continues to caution over article 13

12 November 2018

Further to warnings expressed in October, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has published an additional blog post expressing concerns over article 13. In particular, they note that whilst the goals of article 13 are laudable, the current text will likely have unintended consequences. These consequences include the encouragement of a risk-averse approach to user-uploads, which would see the removal of potentially legitimate content to avoid new liabilities. Instead, Wojcicki encourages the adoption of licensing agreements, better engagement with rightsholders, and developing new technologies (similar to Content ID).
