Study published on the legal aspects of Copyright Directive text and data mining proposals

A new study, as requested by the European Parliament, has been published entitled “The Exception for Text and Data Mining (TDM) in the Proposed Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market – Legal Aspects” (by Christophe Geiger, Giancarlo Frosio and Oleksandr Bulayenko). The study involves an in-depth analysis of the proposed TDM exception at Article 3 of the Copyright Directive, including legal analysis at both European and International levels. The study ultimately concludes that a specific limitation and mandatory exception is required for the future of TDM (which goes beyond the currently proposal to grant the exception to research organisations only).
