AI in Cultural Heritage

This project brings together the interdisciplinary work across different team members in Information Studies at the School of Humanities and external collaborators to explore the challenges facing cultural heritage as a result of advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). This includes work in museums, libraries, archives, and contemporary art and covers topics such as access to knowledge and collections, creativity, visitor experience, digital preservation, technology, and legal aspects such as copyright and data protection. This network brings together a range of cultural heritage professionals, researchers, and artists to examine the opportunities and challenges that AI is providing for managing and interpreting collections; communicating with different audiences; working equitably with communities; the long-term and sustainable preservation of AI-generated materials; the ethical concerns raised by AI applications in cultural heritage.
