Open letter signed by academics at 25 leading IP research centres

26 April 2018

Academics from 25 leading Intellectual Property research centres in Europe have published an open letter, expressing grave concerns at the legislative direction of the proposed copyright directive. The open letter follows a previous letter published on 24 February 2017, and falls soon after a statement from 169 European academics. The open letter details concerns surrounding the three most contentious articles of the draft Copyright Directive (namely articles 3, 11, and 13), concluding that the proposed legislation “is now failing its stated goals to improve choice, access and fairness in the digital environment”.
