Musicians busk in protest against internet platforms

6 September 2018

A group of musicians, including members of Blur and Suede, have busked in protest of the alleged “value gap” between creators and internet platforms. Staged outside the London headquarters for collecting society PRS, and Google, the protest was aimed at “highlight[ing] how even the spare change from passers-by brings in more cash than tens of thousands of streams on YouTube”. UK Music confirmed support behind the provisions of article 13, which they claim will “compel content platforms like YouTube to stop shirking their responsibilities to properly compensate artists for their work”.
