MEPs intend to trigger full plenary vote on Copyright Directive

20 June 2018

Following the JURI vote of 20 June, MEPs intend to request a full plenary vote from the European Parliament in respect of the Copyright Directive, scheduled for 4 July. MEP Marietje Schaake (Dutch Liberals) announced  “[t]his vote is not the end of the debate” (having previously expressed disappointment at the outcome of the JURI decision). However it should be noted that plenary votes rarely overturn committee decisions (and in previous cases of technology-based legislation, has never been successful).
