Meeting of Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament vote to remove automated content filters

20 November 2017

On 20 November 2017, the Civil Liberties Committee of the European Parliament (LIBE)  voted to reject the provision for mandatory automated content filtering (per Article 13). This is a similar proposal as the IMCO draft opinion, and both LIBE and IMCO go beyond the limited amendments proposed by CULT (draft opinion available here).  LIBE instead proposes “appropriate and proportionate measures to ensure the protection of works or other subject matter”. The full LIBE opinion is available here (published 22 November 2017).
