Interview with Czech MEP details need for copyright reform

18 July 2018

EPP MEP, Pavel Svoboda, has stated in a recent interview with Euractiv that current EU law is “stuck somewhere around 2000” and unquestionably needs reform. In regards to article 11, Svoboda prefers the introduction of a “presumption of representation” mechanism, initially introduced by the former rapporteur Therese Comodini Cachia. Of article 13, whilst Svoboda recognises that there is a public interest in pursuing such a provision, they admit that “we are not clear about” the potential full impact; they caution that further consideration of the wording of article 13 is warranted.
