IMCO to host public hearing on regulation of illegal content removal

18 June 2018

The Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) have released a draft programme for a public hearing on “The EU’s horizontal regulatory framework for illegal content removal in the digital single market”. The public hearing precedes the scheduled JURI Copyright Directive vote on 20 June at 10 am, and aims to discuss the existing system of intermediary liability as set out in the E-Commerce Directive. The initial draft opinion of the IMCO was praised by commentators as presenting a more balanced approach to the more controversial clauses of the Copyright Directive, and members of Twitter speculate whether this public hearing will include a discussion of the filtering provisions of article 13.
