First round of trilogue negotiations held

2 October 2018

The first round of trilogue negotiations of the Copyright Directive were held on 2 October 2018. This process involves closed-door negotiations between three key EU bodies (Commission, Parliament, and Council) in an effort to agree a common position on the text of the Directive ahead of an anticipated final vote in February 2019. The process begins with a four column document in respect of suggested articles and recitals with the final column being left empty for the population of compromise agreements. The next round of trilogue negotiations are anticipated on 25 October 2018.

Julia Reda MEP is publishing regular updates following a decision of 22 March 2018 by the General Court of the European Union that the European Parliament can no longer deny access to trilogue documents.
