EARE express disappointment in TDM reform
26 June 2018
The European Alliance for Research Excellence (EARE) have expressed their disappointment in the text and data mining (TDM) provisions of article 3 of the Copyright Directive. In a statement issued 26 June 2018, EARE state that current provisions will “do more harm than good”, particularly in relation to the development of artificial intelligence. The statement calls on MEPs to reject the 5 July mandate to enter into trilogue negotiations, and instead encourages the adoption of a broad and mandatory exception for TDM.
