Computing experts and internet founders submit joint letter in opposition to Article 13

12 June 2018

A joint letter has been submitted to the President of the European Parliament from a group of computing experts and internet founders.  The letter calls for the deletion of the filtering provisions in article 13 in their entirety, stating that the provision changes the internet “into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users”. Furthermore, the letter describes the potential for a disproportionate impact that the new requirements would place on European startups, noting that larger American enterprises (such as Facebook and YouTube) would be able to afford compliance.
