By 19 July 2023November 17th, 2023No Comments

We’re super delighted to share the news that the 4th edition of Icepops, the annual International Copyright-Literacy Event with Playful Opportunities for Practitioners and Scholars, will come to the ARC, University of Glasgow in July 2023.

Icepops was devised by Chris Morrison and Jane Secker and is run in conjunction with the CILIP Information Literacy Group. Running in partnership with CREATe, the 2023 event will combine keynotes, workshops, panels, lightning talks, world café presentations and more. The call for papers is now open and closes on 27 March 2023.

See below for more from our Icepops colleagues on how to get involved…

Icepops 2023 is go – save the date!

Jane Secker, 6 February 2023

We are usually pretty excited but we have some REALLY exciting news to announce today.

The fourth edition of Icepops (Icepops 2023) will be held at the University of Glasgow at the Advanced Research Centre on Thursday 20th July 2023. It will form part of a festival of copyright events running from 19-21 July in partnership with CREATe (UK Copyright and Creative Economy Centre) at the University of Glasgow. We have long been admirers of CREATe’s work, and this opportunity to align our accessible and playful approach to copyright with their world-leading research agenda promises to make this the best Icepops so far. There will be an evening social and various satellite events on the day preceding and following the conference, but watch this space for more info.

Our first confirmed keynote speaker will be Professor Nicola Whitton. Nicola is Director of the Durham Centre for Academic Development and Professor of Education at Durham University, UK. Her research focuses on play in adulthood, in particular games and learning in the context of Higher Education, and the potential of play in teaching, research, and academic practice.

We will also be hosting a workshop with the CREATe eLending Project team which will examine the law and economics of eBooks markets in Europe. Further speakers to be announced soon, however the call for contributions is now open so if you want to present at the conference, get your thinking caps on. The call for proposals will be open until Monday 27th March 2023. We will notify you by Monday 10th April to confirm whether your submission has been accepted and all speakers will need to be registered at the conference.

We anticipate opening registration for Icepops within the next couple of weeks.
