From October 2022, we will be celebrating CREATe’s 10-year anniversary!*
At this 10-year mark, we are both reflective, and forward-looking. Whilst CREATe was, first and foremost, established as the national centre for copyright and new business models in the creative economy, over the past 10 years, we have grown to a leading position in research at the intersection of law, technology, social sciences, and humanities.
Throughout CREATe’s lifecycle, we have focussed on openness, interdisciplinarity, and agility with a long view. As followers of this blog will know, these principles have allowed us to dynamically expand our focus to trade marks, competition, cultural policy, and platform regulation, amongst many other pressing topics. CREATe@10 will bring researchers from many of these fields to explore these new dynamics collaboratively.
Our ambitions for the celebration have both a national and international focus. We will look forward to hosting many in-person events with our colleagues at the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Law and Innovation Network. We will also create opportunities for researchers to attend our events remotely, to support research from our colleagues across the world, including Europe, the US, and China.
We launch our CREATe@10 festivities with a two-day conference in October, celebrating one of our longest-running flagship projects: Copyright Evidence (est. 2014). The conference takes place almost 10 years to the day from our initial query into ‘what constitutes evidence for copyright policy’? Now, as we seek to establish the state of the art of empirical knowledge relating to copyright, we ask ‘what is the evidence that should inform copyright policy’.
Taking place in the new Advanced Research Centre, the conference is structured around thematic ‘myth-busting’ panels with contributors from our 21 for 2021 series. We will also host a General Assembly of the H2020-funded project, ReCreating Europe, where CREATe leads the creative industries stream.
