Almost 100 European screenwriters and directors support new “proportionate remuneration” principle

17 January 2019

95 European screenwriters and directors, have issued a statement in support of the “fair and proportionate remuneration” principle detailed in article 14 of the Copyright Directive. The letter opens with a statement that they feel “disconnected from the success of the works they create”, with reference to weak bargaining power and difficulties in receiving royalties. Whilst in support of the principle generally, they make suggestions for modifications to e.g. the provision for a one-off lump-sum payment, and the explicit mention of “proportionate” within the text.
