Interim Report (October 2023 – September 2025)
This report reflects the first two years of CREATe’s new status as UKRI research infrastructure, under an award from the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (grant reference AH/Y007662/1). CREATe’s mission is to enhance the UK’s knowledge infrastructure for evidence-based law in the creative and cultural economy.
Originally established in 2012 to address the challenges of digital transformation and rapidly evolving copyright norms, the CREATe Centre now operates in an environment shaped by AI, online platforms and data‑driven markets.
These developments demand a joined‑up approach across competition law, intellectual property rights, privacy and data protection, as well as technology regulation – an approach that CREATe is uniquely positioned to provide.
This Interim Report summarises key achievements from the first two years of the current AHRC Infrastructure Award. It highlights CREATe’s contributions to national and international policy debates, our efforts to build interdisciplinary research capacity, and the development of digital tools and resources that support the wider research ecosystem.
Across these activities, the Centre remains committed to providing independent, open, interdisciplinary and impactful evidence that helps policymakers, researchers, creators, creative industries and cultural institutions navigate a complex and fast‑moving legal and regulatory landscape.
