For our next instalment of the Glasgow Competition Talks, we are delighted to host Dr Wendy Ng, Associate Professor at Melbourne Law School, Director of the Competition Law and Economics Network and Associate Director (China) of the Asian Law Centre.
Wendy will talk to us about ‘Corporate purpose and competition law’. The growing public concerns and pressures to address climate change, environmental, societal, and economic problems have reignited debates about purpose in both corporate law and competition law in recent years. These parallel debates in two related and complementary areas of law share common roots and concerns, yet there is hardly any dialogue between them. This talk will examine the corporate purpose debate in corporate law and consider its implications for competition law. In particular, it will look at the most recent iteration of the corporate purpose debate, which focuses on stakeholder capitalism, to illustrate the relevance of corporate purpose to competition law.
